At the Garden of Lysos, nearly all types of vegetables are cultivated, both in open fields and under cover in a greenhouse.
Depending on the season, one can find a wide variety of vegetables — from staple winter crops (such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, celery, spinach, carrots, onions, etc.) to spring and summer produce (like tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, and more).
At the same time, we strive to preserve and source seeds from traditional vegetable varieties, gradually creating our own small seed bank.
The products are sold directly to consumers in a specially designed area located within the same space as the cultivation fields, offering anyone interested the opportunity to see the entire growing process firsthand.
The goal of our weekly market, beyond the obvious financial support for the program and its beneficiaries, is also to share our work with the wider community. At the same time, it serves as a valuable opportunity for the socialization of our students and their familiarization with everyday transactional practices.
The proceeds from sales are distributed to the program’s beneficiaries at the end of the training period, while also helping to cover part of the cultivation expenses.
